Finally...
« on: October 10, 2011, 11:56:14 pm »
Finally I notched a point without breaking off the corners.  Thank goodness.

It helps a lot to have the point thinner.  I wish I'd taken a picture of this spall, it was over an inch thick.  So pleased I got a point.

Thanks guys.  This is the first point I've made in a long time without the glove on and also the first where I tried to support flakes with my finger during percussion.  I was shocked at how much better that worked, though I did bleed more than usual.  Think I'll try putting a piece of tape around the middle finger where the flakes like to stab it until I get a little better at it.  I'm still not worth a hoot at pressure flaking.

Paul, are you going to spend any time in Texas soon so I can come over and get a lesson??? 8) :)

Cool (at least I hope it's cool), maybe we can get over to the lease, knap a little, then shoot various projectiles at pigs. ;D

Thanks guys, I have so much to learn.

Not starting another thread for 1 more point.  Seems like I have about an hour to knapp these days.  Notching didn't go as well, but I think it'll hunt.  I broke a rose shaft  and footed it with 6" of osage.  The shaft alone weighs 730 grains.  I'm gonna put one of the lighter points on the front of that bad boy to go with the heavy foreshaft.  Then I'm gonna run it through a pig.
