I have a good stave I've been hanging onto for a couple years...I've always been reluctant to do antyhing with it because this is the part I'm not good at.
It's got a little bark still on it. Do I need to take all the sap wood off and just work with heart wood?

Yes,get the bark and sap wood off, down to yellow wood, then follow a growth
ring end to end. Then you can layout your bow. It isn't nearly as hard as you would think once you get started.

bleh...I've never done that...chased a ring, that is. I'm having a hard time finding anything online that explains how it. Might you know of a place I can look?
I don't intend to make a self bow, here...it will be backed.
