Tim Baker/Mantra Style Bow
« on: July 10, 2011, 10:04:28 pm »
I wanted to make a bow similar to Tim Baker’s Pecan bow but shorter. It’s hickory, 73” ntn, ~50#@28”. Dimensions: 10” handle, 2” wide at fades tapering to 1 3/8” at mid limb then an Eiffel tower taper to ¼” pin nocks. After heat treating it retains a little over an inch of reflex. I left a few rings on the back of the handle for a little more bulk, which is new for me. I really like how this one came out. Not the prettiest bow but it should be a good performer. I’d like to eventually get some speed measurements but it may not happen. Tiller looks uneven but, I think, could be adjusted with hand placement or flipping. Thanks for looking and sorry about the weird pictures.

Mullet, I made each one in a day. I need to take my time on a tougher project. Got one waiting for me that I've been a little intimidated to start.

Ken75, Thank you. I think the pic makes the bottom limb look shorter and like its bending a bit more. Maybe it's just me.

Thanks for the comments guys. I sincerely appreciate it. :)

That's a really nice looking bow.  I prefer longer bows because i think they are easier to shoot.  It does look like the bl is working more out of the fade than the tl.

Nice bow Ryoon!  I think that the tiller is very acceptable.  There's a point when you have to decide to stop tillering or you'll end up with a 30 lb kids bow.  Are you going to decorate it with an alligator gar design like Tim did?

Also noticed the State shirt.  You a Michigander?

wvarcher, This one definitely has a sweet draw. I think I'll take another pic of drawing it the other way and see if I can get the tiller looking a bit more even.

MWirwicki, This one's close enough where I'm not disappointed. I don't think I'll decorate this one but I need to start making these more pretty. I am a Michigander. I'm from Swartz Creek but I'm living in Lansing for the summer working on campus at MSU.

Thanks for the comments guys. :)

The bows you make are very precise and clean, I like the simplicity you seem to project :) well done again
