im probably wrong since this is my first bow. The tiller could actually be horrible and i dont know it because im a beginner.  When I post pics i want everyone to be honest.  If it terrible say its terrible.

your not going to tiller with a drawknife are you, rasp and scraper are all you need to tiller.

hey david!  -  yes i guess there's a difference, but the native speakers should explain that... 38#@20" might be much closer to 30#@20" then you think right now! so go s l o o o o o w.... (we all can't wait to see the fulldraw picture, but we WILL wait!!!)  8)
what was your wood again? hickory??

good luck for your first bow, frank

ps: i still find the drawknife a tricky tool to work with. also there are MANY different kinds of drawknives for different purposes!! be always VERY carefull when you work with it and as dana said NEVER use it to tiller; it's a shaping tool!

David for a scraper you can use a knife with a straight edge or make one from a thin piece of steel. There is thread somewhere on here about scrapers, do a search for scrapers. If ya have birthday comin up suggest to mom and dad that ya want the Traditional Bowyers Bible books. Hoping to see some pics soon and remember to take yer time. Good Luck

Go to the depot and get a "cabinet" scraper...just a smallish rectangle of spring steel, should not be very expensive either.

If your planning on only taking off 8lbs, it will not take very much wood removal at all.
Course and finish sanding will take off almost that much.

Now I will tiller on a low brace.

the finished bow will be about 40-45lbs @ 28"

Expect to see pictures soon!

If you are at 20" on a long string, just brace that sucker to full brace.  A scraper is definitely what you need.  Justin
