Bow bending?

Hello fellow archers,

Would it be ok to skip the tillering process and just put the bow into a wood bender?

Also how do you make sure that the bow would stay at 50#

Welcome aboard.
Would it be ok to skip the tillering process and just put the bow into a wood bender?   That would be a big fat NO! The tillering process is what makes it a bow not a bent stick. Carefully watching the bend to make sure it is bending evenly and smoothly is tillering, which, funny enough, is how you make sure that the bow would stay at 50#.

That's ok.Everyone makes mistakes.Do a bunch of reading and searching in the build-a-long section and you will cut down on the common mistakes.

I would also suggest starting with common inexpensive woods for your first few bows untill you get the hang of it.The main thing though is don't be afraid to start.

Go to George's site http://georgeandjoni.home.comcast.net/~georgeandjoni/archer.html  and he has a couple of build alongs that will help you jump into your first bow a little quicker.
