Osage bow

Have got some trunk from a friend 

The first bow is in  floor tiller stage (~55ntn) and have two tight ring on the back after remoove a lot of "micro" rings. No sap!

It looking dark and dense wood to me.

I ve missed the rings somwhere at the middle (bend thrue handle Dbow) and have to fade two rings on the back, so it not chased for 1 ring. It not looking bad to me just like to ask the osge experts
Could this make trouble? Now it have to dry out so have few weeks.....

Try to position the fade on a pin knot where the limb wouldn't bend too much.


I could protect it if it needs. May that would be the best solution (?)

Is there a reason you can't get the back to one continuous ring? Could the back be sinewed? Or maybe sinew wrapped a certain distance each side of the violation? Just throwing out my questions too.

If the violation doesn't take up a very large area I would lay some sinew over the violation and wrap it with thread. Can you show us some pics of the rings in question Zoltan?

It made it last night may a bit too fast   with axe and rasp  

It have a wavy knoty back with no paralell rings. If I scrap that part too it schould be weak.

I think some rawhide wrapping schould secure that point. Hope so

From what I see ya just knicked down into the next ring about the size of a pinky nail. Sinew wrap her and it looks like it should be ok. IMHO id rather just back thin ringed Osage cus I hate chasing thin rings and feel thin ringed makes a better backed bow. But some people will disagree with me on this one. I also understand though that Osage is harder for you to find than here in the states. Im sure you'll manage a fine shooter from her.

Just a little update. The bow is near finished. Tillered without secure those part.
Today put a rawhide secure patch  and some sinew wrappings on it, have to finish for this weekend.
It is about 55# at 25

Woo-wee. Look at that fun rollercoaster ride. Lots of humps n bumps. That looked like a fun tiller. Can't wait to see that one at full draw.

  I can see wide you had trouble following the rings if they were thin. Try useing a damp rag as scrape. This way you can see the ring edge better.

She is drying now and hope will be ready soon. Built up the sinew nocks too.

There was no trouble with scrapping, just with rough out to floor tiller before chased one ring Eaten the wood too fast at late night There was an axe mark and not enough room of error......

The handle will fade out the whole secure patch, so it doesn't matters. It is working without that, but I like the safe things, especially on a present.
It is a very simple but fast hunting stick.
