Knapping Virginity
« on: May 09, 2011, 07:54:34 pm »
Lost my virginity and made my first point instead of just adding to the gravel in my truck bed. Came out really thick didn't have any shape in mind just started and ended up with this. Here it is its from some dacite scraps Jesse gave me at the classic not much but I guess I have to start some where. What do yall think? Advice or criticism? Thanks everyone

looks good for a first
look like what they would call a drill point

only advise i can give right now is
keep on hitting them rocks,it gets easier the more you hit  ;)
i always wanted a harley, untill it became the "thing to ride"
i ride because i love to,not to be part of the crowd

I agree it looks like a drill. I can't give expert advice but I can give beginner advice. The one thing I would tell you is take your time and set up your platforms!  Experiment with strke angles to see which takes the longest thinning flakes. It seems to me  that learning to thin a piece without losing too much width or length is the first challenge.

Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

You know what? If the edges are sharp it will still make a wide hole and probably penetrate pretty good. Just don't mount it with a sinew cross wrap and leave the whole edge, sharpened and exsposed. Nice point.

Don't expect too much at first. That'll work for starters and don't look half bad. Keep em coming..
