Acacia wood

A buddy of mine just put down a new floor of acacia wood. It is a beautiful dark color with highly figured grain and harder than the hubs of hell. He gave me a bunch of scrap pieces and I'm thinking they would make great tip over lays or possibly could be used for a handle build up of a contrasting color. Has anyone tried this wood for anything?

I bet it would work great. I have a collection of stuff like that i have collected from various places.

Acacia wood was used a great deal in biblical times.The ark of the covenant was made from it alone with the temple poles,basically anything that was to last and be used a good deal was made from it. I would call it the Osage of the middle east. ;D

There seems to be several types of Acacia. It grows in Australia, Africa, as well as the middle east. Don't know if they are all similar in their characteristics.
