Dave, baleen is what hangs down in a whales mouth to filter out the plankton when it is feeding. it is actually fine hairs that are in long strips, these strips harden when they dry out and have many uses among native alakans. they even use them for sled runners. Glenn St. Charles was the first modern person to use baleen, he found it in a hide dealers shop. they used it in making womens corsetts.....and thats the truth
the stuff really stinks when you sand it, smells like shellfish, imagine that. it is very durable. I used epoxy to glue this on, but the next time I will use urac. by the way, what was the first place joke?? I must have missed it...or fell for it
