i herd one time that a gel pen works great...so,what do you use...AND also do you guys sign on the bare wood or put a few coats of sealer on then sign...then some more coats...thanks john

John, I use India ink to write on bows. I put a light coat of satin poly on the bare wood or after a few coats of Tru-Oil, write on it and give the ink plenty of time to dry then add Tru-Oil over for the rest of the finish treatment.

Depends on the finish I'm using when I sign, but I use a Sharpie xtra fine black pen.  It seems to work with all of the finishes I've used.

I like to use an extra fine sharpie on the bare wood. Sometimes I'll add the signature during the finish process.

Lately I've been using an industrial sharpie for lettering. I find it works best after applying a couple coats of finish.

I use white or black India ink with a metal nib pen.  You really have to keep it mixed well, but it's a pretty bomb-proof way to sign your bows and is compatible with most finishes.  I even use it often on quivers, sheaths, and misc. projects.  Here's a few examples:
