Guess who's trade bow I started.
« on: March 28, 2011, 10:19:37 pm »
Keep guessing, cause I'm not telling. ;D I was hoping to get some input on tiller, grain runoff, and possible backing. The first pic is drawn to 28" It's ash, 1 5/8" wide, bend through handle, 66" long. It's only 35#, somehow I always seem to end up to light on draw weight. I was thinking about putting a hickory backing on it. I have some that is 1/16" thick. The second pic is the grain runoff, it seems to be fine at the moment, but what do you all think of it holding up long term? Thanks everybody.

Don't all chime in at once now :( I forgot to mention that grain runoff is on the belly side. The back looks good. Will that make a difference?

you're to far along to give up on it, keep going and see how it holds, use hick, rawhide or paper, paper is great for artwork on the back, tiller looks good so far, Bub

Thanks Bubby, I appreciate the input. I do have some artwork planned for the back. I'm gonna start another for the trade too, just in case this one blows.

Dave: your back up wouldn't happen to be a hickory stave would it? LOL

I find the background really irritating to judge the tiller, but I'd say after looking at it for a bit it's nearly perfect. I'd think the left limb should go up.
A rawhide backing, maybe a few linen wrappings at the most critical points of run off, and I'd call it a bow! For higher draw weight I would start another one.
