  ??? Well this is my first almost finished bow and I hear a little pop sound on the lower limb i didnt over pull it iv been keeping it at a constant weight while pulling it on the tree.  so I looked and this is what I found it's pulling 25# at 16 inches  is it to late to back it with something I can leave it to be a kids bow at this draw length the reason it's so low of a weight i am  making it for my cousin who broke his hand last year and he wanted a low weight bow to target shoot with

Looks like the grain runs off the back at a dangerous angle.

If there's any chance of saving that bow, it will have to be backed IMHO.

I'm no expert on backings, but I think a wood backing strip, rawhide, or maybe flax/linen could prevent the bow from ending up in the scrap heap.

Sorry to see that.
I have to agree, too much fibre violation there. It would probably be OK if you backed it with a wood slat, but if it were me I'd use it to keep the house warm and try again with a better piece of wood. Chalk it up as experience either way.

Whoa that is some pretty serious grain runoff on the back!  You could keep it in one piece if you backed with something solid like hickory or bamboo.  Draweight could easily double though so you could plane the back flat (can be kinda hard to do) and thus get rid of the rounded corners and probably the splinter too.

with all the grain violation on the back of that bow
i wouldnt give it to a kid to shoot unless it was backed with something better than linen
with out backing that bow is going to break,its just  matter of time
doesnt matter if its a low draw weight,it already splintered and its gonna keep going unless it hets backed
persoanlly i would start a new one,and put that in the fire pit jmho

im going to back it after i run the patch im not going to give it to a kid il keep it for a reminder on not backing it from the start :)

Bevan, go to Jawges site and look up board selection. The board you had was flat sawn it looks like where it should have been 1/4 or rift sawn. Once you figure out how to pick boards it gets a lot easier.
