hackberry tree?
« on: March 09, 2011, 06:38:43 pm »
My neighbor has a hackberry in his front yard and this year the bark got pretty shaggy, any one know why? Just wondering cause if he takes it out, I get it, Bub

I've seen hackberry with corky warts all over it but not shaggy bark.

Not like any hackberry tree we have here in Nebraska or in Kansas where I cut wood.

Man if that used to be a hackberry theres something really wrong with it.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."

I agree the knots, the bark here in WV's tight to the tree. It looks like it's differntly something wrong with it to me..

Are you thinking of cutting the neighbor's tree down?  :D
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Nope not a hackberry....looks like a big chinese elm (lacebark elm) Ulnus parvifolia.  But I may be wrong.
