I made this today dreaming about when the water is not solid ;D   It is 42in overall rivercane with 6in ash foreshaft the point is deer legbone it is a N.A. design I got out of a book. The point pulls out of the shaft and the codage is tied around a groove hopefully you get a passthrough the head comes out and turns sideways (in theory) if it ever gets above 20degrees I'll give her a go.

I was just watching 'River Monsters' and saw a harpoon head kind of like discused earlier but the big difference was that the head fit around the shaft instead of the other way around. I think a point like that looks like it would work great with the cane shafting.

That is a primative "slip tip".  Check out slip tip and "pole spear" fishing vids on youtube.  That is Sweet.  You have me considering how I can convert my arrow to that.
