Had to bury my little buddy today
« on: February 03, 2011, 09:26:46 pm »
I have a heavy heart tonight. RIP Sam, Jack Russell Terrorist extraordinaire, tree-er of possums and coons, defender of the garden from groundhogs, best friend, companion, and hiking buddy for the last thirteen years. It's a durn shame that dogs don't live as long as we do.

I Sorry you lost your buddy Hillbilly. Sounds like you have a ton of great memories, though. I never owned a JR but I helped dig one out of a groundhog hole once. He wasn't coming out without that hog!

Hillbilly,
I'm with you.  Remember that the loss isn't in them, it's in us.
It will be ok.  I hope my dog and your dog are at my father's house eating a porterhouse steak for two and lapping up spilt brew.

I am so sorry to hear this. It is never easy losing your best friend.

Once in a while, I get up to the Dog Chapel, in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Amazing place. It was build by an artist named Stephen Huneck as a place to go and remember your pets, post photos in the chapel, and remember how lucky we are to have dogs (and cats and other friends) in our lives. The place is called Dog Mountain, and is absolutely peaceful and beautiful.

Next time I go, if you want, I can print out this photo of Sam and give him a place of memory in the chapel. Just about all the walls are covered with photos and rememberences of lost pets, thousands of them now. Kara's photo is there (and we scattered some of her ashes there), as is Charlie, my parent's terrier, and my wife's dog Freeway, who I never met but heard was totally evil :) I expect to go this summer. Just let me know.

Same goes for Scooter, Stephen. Google the place up, guys, so you can see it.

Very sorry for your loss.  It's a shame they're so darn irreplaceable.  I'm already worried about how the loss of mine is going to affect me, and she's only 3.

I am with you Steve, sure is hard to loose them family members and best friends. I thinkthe best thing is to go ahead and get another one and hope the terrorist stage dosn't last more than a few years.     kenneth

Sorry for the loss Steve. We have had to deal with the same on other occassions and it was hard for the whole family.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body. But rather to slide in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW WHAT A RIDE!!

Never easy......i heard once that the reason dogs don't live as long as people is so you can enjoy more of them, probably doesn't help much, but it's all i got !
