Elm double-curve inset-handle recurve selfbow
« on: November 15, 2010, 06:15:56 pm »
American elm stave.   56" ntn, 45# at 28 inches.  Bend through handle style with full width all the way through bow. 1.25 inches wide to tip tapers.  Steamed curve and mid-section bends, dry heated mid-limb bends and generally tuned up bends throughout with dry heat.  Tips aligned so that string  passes along left edge at the arrow pass.  Brown osage tip overlays and cord wrapped handle.   Really interesting feel in the draw and very smooth.  My summer project.  I have slowed down a bit on bow making finally.

If the pics are too confusing with the scraggy strings from the pole beans in background I can take new pics

Hope you are all doing well.

Dave

Bow is cool, really maintained low string angles all the way to full draw. That might be a  good design for me to try in a real short flight bow. great job Dave. Steve

Ohhh it's in there alright...  ;D  Great looking bow!  I like how short it is and still is able to be pulled to 28" and not have 3" of stringfollow.  To me that screams professional. Bookmarked for BOM Nov.  :)

I'm pleased that you fellows like it.  One wonders why plains Indians took the time to do it.  They probably thought it was cool too.
