I just wanted to share the link to this Youtube video I found for anybody who wants to make their own strings but isn't quite sure how. This is not my video, and I don't know this guy, but of all the videos I've watched about making a flemish string so far, this guys makes it look the easiest and explains what he's doing the best. You could do this the same way without a string jig just by measuring out the first thread and making each other one in the bunch slightly longer to get a nice taper where the tag ends twist together.
I used this technique on a string that I made tonight (without the jig), and after having to redo the second loop several times, I would suggest making one change. He suggests making the second loop end 4 inches away from the knock. I found that this was too short (for my long bow), because after you put 10 or 15 twists in the finished string, your brace height will be way too high. On the 3rd try, I made the edge of the second loop only about 2 inches away from the knock, and after finishing twisting it up, it was nearly perfect. It took me a bit of trial and error to get it just right, but the next one should be way easier.
