Good Pen For Signing Under Varnish
« on: September 27, 2010, 09:20:50 pm »

I am finishing my OsageHickbow now-when I get done I'll kill all the old strings and post up my finished pics.

What is a good pen for me to sign my bow and put the info on it?

I'll sign over the TruOil and then lock the ink in with a lot of coats.

What's a good pen? I am envious of the fine lines on the bows I see here.

Pete
Most pens will run when painted over with varnish or a plastic finish.  What I find works well is a water base fine tipped marker.  It uses alcohol as a carrier and is not affected by the solvents used in modern varnishes or plastic finishes.  Just avoid using shellac over it or touching it until it is coated.

Pete, I use India Ink, with good results. Stays put, and doesn't fade as the stuff has solids in it. I found mine in pen form in a craft store. They were available in several tip styles for the express purpose of calligraphy.
