where is a good place ( web site) to buy wood to make a bow with, I need it to be close to what is needed because I'll have to do almost all the work my hand.

I bought two red oak boards at Lowes today that will give me four bows. Total cost around $30.

Ask at your local lumberyard, they may know where you can find a hardwood mill within reasonable distance to you. For ten dollars at my local mill, I can make a dozen bows. Second that on Jawge's site, all the information you need right there to get you going.

thanks for all the fast responce, I'll be checking out the home depot and lowes don't know of any sawmills and I checked out george and joni web site great imformation.I'm wanting to make a bamboo backed bow and I've seen where more folks say that hickory is not a good belly wood, what would be better and still get at home depot or lowes.

Home depot will get you red oak. It is a good cheap wood for learning how to tiller a bow. Once you get that worked out you will have made enough connections here on PA someone will have the perfect belly wood for your boo backed bow.
  You have to learn to crawl before you can learn to walk!

Pat B you are right, I have a hard time with that, my dad said I never really crawled when I was a baby more or less just started walking .I have made one self bow of hickory I had lots of help at the tn classic this year it shoots great.Thanks I am trying to go slow and learn as much as possible along the way. I thank everyone for their help and I try my best to take it all in.so what your saying is I need to try my hand at more selfbows or bows of one wood before I jump into bamboo back bows.
