Elm with character

Hi!

Elm 63", 35# , 1,5" wide, handle is 4" .The bow is 1.5 ounce heavy according to massprinciple. Top limb got rollercoaster, twisting, snake and knots, bottom got a couple of small knots and a minor twist.

Don't know if the tiller is good or bad, tried to follow the advise on character bows in TBB4.

What a terrific bow. To me, the tiller looks excellent. She is a beauty, and proves that osage is not the only snaky wood. I love elm.

Nice job from such a tricks stave. The nock in the top pic looks interesting, any chance of a close up?
I like the way we have different sytles of nock.

Braced tiller looks fine.  Full draw pic makes the right (top) limb look a little stiffer when you compare the positioning to the chalk lines behind the bow but the grip is sitting slightly right of centre on the tree too so taking that into account, it looks like a great tiller!!

What did you wrap the handle with? Is that bark?

HatchA- I agree, maybe the upper limb is stronger. Might heat the lower a bit I only tempered the upper limb before. Gonna shoot some first. Thanks

Nice job on the tiller. The handle wrap looks superb and very fitting for a primitive bow. Elm I haven't had a chance to try yet but certainly is on my bucket list. Very nice touch on a challenging stave.

nice work Is it a limb bow? looks like some of the knots come in almost from the side like a limb bow or a real small stave.I wondered or is half a side of a limb removed a stave?   Is a bow a limb bow if it is made from half a limb or a stave bow. Most would of not seen a bow in that piece of wood, I would of looked down the thing and seen if the string would line up in the handle without a lot of adjusting. I would of dropped it and looked elsewhere unless I just had to test my skills let us know if it shoots or brakes Ect.

Nice work on a snakey piece of elm.Don't feel like the lone ranger,I've never been able to make mass with any of my elm bows,yet they are good performers.Again,great job. God Bless

Thanks for the nock pic.
I'm working on a Yew primitive at the mo' I'm going for narrow deep tips (that should remove the small crack/check in the end with a bit of luck), I like your minimalist nock, nice simple shoulder and not too much spare stuff hanging off the end!
I'll prob end up with something similar with a slim bit of WB horn on the back, should look good on the Yew sapwood.
I'll post it when she's done.

Ha! I've just worked out what that big line is on one limb, it's a blade of grass (pic #2 in your original post, my colour vision isn't all it could be so I thought it was a black line at first)...that could be a nice motif for a paint job one day (I don't normally decorate bows, I don't much like stain either, or varnish come to that! , maybe I'm just a lazy old cat)
