Hophornbeam Burl?
« on: June 09, 2010, 02:56:19 pm »
Just found this last week when I cut some wood and was wondering if there was anything I could use it for, besides a club that is, lol.  It's not very big but I was hoping I might be able to get some accent pieces out of it for detail work.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah I was thinking something with knives, I'd like to try my hand at some folders some time and thought it might work for that.

Haha, sailordad hadn't thought about that.  Not a smoker myself but I do have a pal into primitive stuff that likes pipes.  How do you even go about that?

Clean it up, and put it out with a decorative wrapped handle, and set it with a bowl of Walnuts, and Brazil nuts, etc.  ;)  I'd just leave it alone.  makes for a nice conversation piece.  Put a nice wrapped handle on it, with a looped thong.  Be a good rabbit stick!
Or other aminule type o dispatcher. " Hang on t that bar Virgil, I am commin with the noggin knocker" ..... be good fer stuff like that ya know.   ;D

If your gonna use it for cougars,I'd drill a hole thru the middle of it,stuff a .44 magnum barrel in it and tie it in place with some deer sinew to make it properly primitive looking. Yeah..that 'd do for a big kitty.  Good luck  '  Frank

Stick it on a lathe and turn it into $500.

Use it for a stickshift in your old Woody wagon!

Or a handle on your keg tap!

Set some rhinestones in it and use it as a redneck scepter!  (King of the Bowyers)

Fish whacker!

And since this is a family forum, I will refrain from adding the other 38 uses that came to mind.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Well, you got to spend a few years standing in front of a lathe first. And then the gallery that sells it takes half the $. Maybe it ain't such a good idea.
