Pyramid One
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:36:51 pm »
Hi all,
Well here it is, finally, mostly, I say finally because this one seemed to not want to get done.  Ever.  And I changed things along the way.  And measured wrong and had to drop back and punt.  Twice.
58" tip to tip, 57" ntn, 1 3/4" at the fades down to 1/4" at the tips.  Hickory with hickory tip overlays, linen backed, black silk wrapped.  It will have an arrow shelf and leather wrap, fitted to the owners hand.  40#@24", the shortest, bendiest bow I've made yet, still makes me nervous, heh.
As always, I greatly appreciate your comments and observations.
Frode

If it doesn't rap the lintel, it might not be a longbow.

Thanks everyone!
@youngbowyer and gopher, I haven't more than plucked off a few half drawn shots in the Underground Lair's range, so I don't know about hand shock yet, but I'm hopeful.  The 1/4" tips still seem impossibly thin to me, but they are light, so...  the finish is a commercially available beeswax/carnuba/orange oil mix, consistency between paste wax and tooth paste, wipe on, let set 20 min., wipe off, buff.  Missus Frode got me a big bottle for Christmas and this is the first chance to use it.  I like it!
I'll let you know how it shoots soon.
Thanks again,
Frode

Really nice bow,

I have two 58" started from ash, hope they turn out as well, same fade out width but 3/8s tips,

great looking nocks you have on yours,

can you post the company name and product name on the oil?  Really nice finish.
