bow wrap cordage?
« on: March 22, 2010, 01:06:35 am »
I have seen some kind of cord wrap around many of the bows I have seen here. It is usually at the last 4-8" of the limbs.
What is it that you use? Is it for strengthening and or decoration. Either way, I like it...

Thanks

I think what you are referring to it the thread wraps to hold down and protect sinew at the ends of the bow.

This may be correct, but i believe that i read on a thread from el D that he did this because of some possible splintering.
I ask because my first bow pulled at about 16" made some very slight cracking sounds. If so, what do you use to adhere the thread to bow

It does work for problem areas. You can use art. sinew, real sinew, B50, etc.  I set it in Duco or epoxy except for the real sinew where I use hide glue. Sometimes I'll glue on a strip of rabbit fur over it for a decoration. I'll glue on a strip of fur on the other limb in the same place. Makes it look like a decoration. Jawge
