New red oak(pics)
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:05:21 pm »
Here is one of my latest red oak experiments. It is 67" tip to tip. 1/3/4 at the fades and 1/4 at the tips. It is 55# at 28". the tips and handle risers are made of osage. the silencers are coon fur. the arrow rest is built up leather, which was a first that is definitely gonna be included on future bows. Used red, black leather dye and a shelac finish. It took bout 1/1/2 of set after being shot in, but is still the quickest red oak ive made so far.  Ty

Great looking bow. My wife commented on how much she liked the red/black contrast.  :)

The oak portion of the limb took two coats of the red to get that color. the first coat left it lookin like a pink and black valentine bow. The osage on the handle only required one coat and it turned a beautiful color of red. cant wait to use this technique on an all sage bow. 8)
