Need some advice from u guys!
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:50:22 pm »
Well I've got a problem with the string coming off one of my recurves when i shoot it...I'll pull it back and release it but instead of going back to its braced profile, the string totally flies off and bow is unbraced in my hand with the string on the ground....im so confused with it that i had to ask you guys to see if you had any advice....I know it can't be good on the bow so Im probably not going to shoot it until I figure this out

Make a string with smaller loops or tie on a serving at the loop to make it a bit smaller.

I just reread and saw that it actually comes off the bow not just slides down the limb :o. Gotta say thats a new one to me.

forgot to add...the bow does have some twist in the bottom limb...idk if that would cause the string to fly off or not

Kyler, that bow's gotta be worth a fortune !¡!¡!  Whatever ya do don't fix it !¡!¡! ;D
The string has to be sliding over the tips.

If you will post pics someone should be able to make an educated guess at least. If the limb is twisted it might be slinging the string off when shot. Pics will really help us figure it out.

I would suspect that if you have skinny tips and the curves are full 1/4 curves that your string is not contacting the center of the curve ,then blowing past and off the knock.  I have one that I was working on today that is very similar and so I filed in some centering groves on the curves

Exactly what I was thinking Keenan. It is going to need some string bridges to keep it from comming off.

I've only had this happen on bows with limb twist, One twisted limb is all it takes.

Can you watch,of have someone watch the draw cycle and tell what you need to do to correct it?

;D Beginners..... ;D You have to fix the limb twist on a contact recurve. String grooves will help some but the string will still work its way over to one side on the limb unless you have it perfect. Get out your heat gun clamp the affected limb in the vise and warm the area  just below the recurves. Use your hand to put pressure on the tip until and slightly over correct the the limb twist, hold it there until it cools...... ;D

I might add that I have had bows like yours that needed to be slightly out of line when unbraced in order to be in line with each other when braced. If you know what I mean.
