Around camp and my first set up, seen a nice cow elk but about 50 yards was as close as she came.

It was chilly at night so the wood stove works out great.

Beau done a little fishing, man they were good.The view was beautiful no matter where you looked.

Muskrat lake was beautiful and always full of ducks. We spiked camped about 1/4 below it.

Beau didn't want a mount , only euro mount of the skull, we kept the hide but cut it off at the head to make it easier to bring out, we were about 3 1/2 miles in so anything to make the pack easier we did.

Bear steaks for supper and man they were tasty !!! after living in the tent for a few days things get a little unorganized.

Beau's kids sent a picture for each day he was gone with a little something written on them, so sweet and made him feel better and not miss them so much. Miss Joanie didn't do that for me.

Then on to the elk, what a job getting that animal out, he shot it at 8/9 yards and it went 70 or 80 yards in some bad down timber, we didn't want to have to go back a 3rd time so we boned it out in the woods and brought it all out in 2 trips about 6 1/2 miles round trip.

Cleaning the game bags for the 2nd time

and of course elk steak for supper. They were tasty also. We ate like kings Venison/Bear/Elk and trout, hard to be that.

Last night in camp, great time for sure. Hope yall enjoyed. Now back to work on the bear and just maybe try and get ready for the up coming deer season here in Tennessee.

Thanks guys, yep hope to be able to do it at least a few more years, we will see $:-\$ Now headed to the cabin to work up the bear.

Never boned out a Bear but don't look much different from any other critter I have boned.

You are welcome Steve, spent the last couple of days working up meat and getting our gear a taken care of, we wound up with about 150 lbs of Elk burger and 60/70 lbs of steaks and roast, and 70 lbs of Bear burger and about 40 lbs of steaks and roast so the freezers are full, lots of work but lots of fun and appreciation also. We also got our big tent set up and cleaned, just need to let it dry out and then put it away till the next adventure. By the way the bear burger is great and Miss Joanie already cook a bear roast and I don't think I have eaten anything better, seems bear get a bad rep from some but I don't understand why. GregB and Bucky helped with the trim work and the help was much appreciated.

Congrats again, Pappy. Sounds like a wonderful hunt for you and Beau.
I've only had bear meat a couple of times and it was great. I've been told you have to cook bear meat well because of Trichinosis so keep that in mind.

Primitive Archer
