Yes BJ, very true, don't always hit right where you are looking, but a little high is generally a better outcome than a little low.

Had a great weekend, got a few things done in the shop and had a great day with the family. Decided to mount Beau's elk feet into a gun/bow rack, I decided to do a chemical tan on them, never done that before but pretty easy, my nephew is a taxidermist and told me how to do it and also gave me the chemical, all I had to get was the salt for the mix and baking soda after to neutralize it. Also he gave me 8 lbs of bear fat so I rendered it down and got 3 1/2 quarts. Cooked it on the fire for several hours.Smells like beacon grease.

Cooked it on up into the night. GregB showed up and he is still making his spoons. Always good to see him.

While the fat was cooking down just spent a good evening into the knight by the fire, Joe showed up also and stayed a couple of day.I hunted the mornings and seen a few deer but no shots, the evening as usual I got side tracked doing other things.

I had another deer given to me so I had that to deal with which is a good thing.

Then I started getting set up for the reunion, the family mostly city folks now always want to see what I have been up to. Although they don't do the stuff i do they do love to look.

Had the place looking good for them and all seemed to enjoy, they said it was going back in time and i was born 100 years to late, I agree.

Had about 70 folks there and was really good to see them, usually on see the once a year and some only every few year because of how far they live.

Another great weekend, still no more deer but some close encounters, maybe this week

I did get a lot done around the shop so that's always a good thing. Got the elk and deer feet tanned and drying,next will be filling the leg bone and mounting on a board, also I had a cousin at the reunion talk me into making 3 knives, 2 for her daughters and 1 for her husband, not sure how she talked me into that but I am pretty easy sometimes

she also wanted them to be made with deer sheds she had found on their farm. It took some figuring to get it done but I think they are turning out pretty good. Hope she will like what I came up with.

Making 2 neck knives and one larger blade for her husband. In my spare time i got my 2 hide scrapped and ready to sand and tan when I feel like doing them. Shawn and Doug showed up for some bow work, this is Doug's first and i am helping him along.
