centerlin tool

hello to all of you,

i do not which of these archery sites that i saw this tool.  it is a centerline tool for finding the center of staves.  i thought it was an ingeniuous(?) tool for this purpose.  it is a 5 inch piece of wood with two dowels maybe a half-inch from the ends and a 5/16 nut fitted in the very center of the wood and you put a pencil in the nut only so far.  you put the stave between the dowels and fun it up the stave as you make a mark.  has anyone seen such a animal?  if so,  i would look a picture so i can make one from it.

When laying out a bow you have to follow the vertical or lateral grain. How can you do that with this tool?

unless your fortunite enough to have the rarely seen perfect staves   lol
although it is a cool idea,i just dont see it being very practicle for making selfbows

This is one I made. I gave it to Pappy at the Classic last may. I used it quite a bit and it works great on selfbow staves. If the stave is split out along the grain it will follow the grain fairly well and if any areas are questionable I would make two lines, one from one side and one from the other and then mark the center between the two. I haven't built a bow since then so I haven't missed it but I will make another.

ya your right there pappy
i didnt even think of that,the split should follow the grain,therfore the tool should still go down the center line
very cool,i think i might have to try this tool out :)
