Well with all the yew around i figured i had better make my token long bow.
this one named lumpy is 75 inches tip to tip, bending through the handle and pulling 69 pounds at 31 inches. quite narrow with a D profile. made from the same tree as the rest of my bows so far, tight grained yew. this was a belly split and therefore all heartwood and one ring. It has a bit of character a nice lump, hence the name and a small knot. It took very little set, probably due to it's long length.
I dyed it with "british tan" leather dye which i think turned out great, i was temped to get some black dye and do a bit of a camo job, but as is it looks nearly identical to the arbutus tree we have around here.
The tips are cow horn overlays to help with the string bite. no heat corrections were made. and finished with many coasts of water based poly
On the tiller stick it is pulled at 30 inches, and i think the limb with the lump is a tough stiff mid to outer limb, not sure yet whether to do a bit more scraping or must make it the bottom limb (opposite to full draw pic) and be done. I'll try to get a pic of it flipped and pulled. I don't think i am going to do a handle wrap, instead opt for the bowyers mark at the handle.
