Pat,I agree with you,I used osage exclusively for the first 6 or 7 years,but I really enjoy the whitewood challenge,especially since learning Marc's heat treating method.George,I know it's contrary to some ,but I've always done overlays on the bevel,and have yet to had a failure.I just like the angled joint on non-working wood.StickBender,HHB is good bow wood,this bow came from a 4" tree,and its back is fairly flat,but I built one from this same tree with a very high crown(and un- even ).I de-crowned to make a rectangular cross section,and silk backed it,and it turned out good.Also,The whitewoods really should be heat treated on the belly to help with compression,to lower set,and enable you to reduce mass,thus having lighter limbs,and a faster arrow.Also,you could get by building it a little shorter if you desire,the wood will handle it.Thanks all.
