Dragonmans new bow
« on: June 14, 2009, 05:25:27 pm »
Heres some pics of my latest, most troublesome, most difficult and most time consuming bow, it isn't finished yet, needs tillering (not quite sure how to do that yet) and all the finishing touches, but thought it might be of some interest to you and I might even get some good advice. I've never tried a bow like this before, but I had to give it a go.
It is 56" ntn. bamboo belly, ipe core ,sinew back, and oak siyas, the origanol siyas where much more extreme, but one broke and I managed to repace them
It started with 7" of reflex, and didnt lose any of it after a few shots, but the tiller went out, so I stopped shooting, it felt a bit sloppy so i tested the moisture and the boo and sinew had gone up to 13%, so I'm hoping drying it will sharpen it up! any advice on the best way to tiller these type of bows will be very welcome

Great bow! - Hornbow with no horn...
you probably can fix tiller by bending it in!

you might want to try a string bridge.  not that i am any kind of expert on composite bows.  but unless you raise the brace height looks like you need it.  looks pretty cool so far.

Nice..........can't wait to see tillering and full draw pix.  How long are you waiting between sinew courses?

Thanks guys, forgot to mention it draws around 58-60lbs at 27", There's a reason for the lack of full draw pics, they reveal the lack of tillering, one limb is right out and as I said  I'm not entirely sure how to fix it, but tomorrow I will try with a mixture of heat and pressure, but here goes anyway I'll post a pic and risk it , just for you Pat B , I hope I'm fully welcome back >:D It shoots ok, but the moisture is double what it should be, so cant really say, my feeling is the bows is too long and understressed to be fully effective, this combo is well flexible much more than wood alone!!!, but it is an experiment and will give me the necessary info to make a much better one. As for the string bridge it is a good idea, worth to try, but as far as I understand, the modest reflex doesnt warrant it!!! In reply to Marvin, I waited overnight between sinew layers and ther are 4 layers

Let Dry Overnight....but how long since the last layer was laid down?? Should not be drawing it for at least a Month....I wait three to four before I do....especially if I have put multiple Layers down that fast
