Miracle Bow! Finished Pictures! Full Draw!
« on: June 05, 2009, 04:50:07 pm »
FInished Miracle Bow!  Made of erc  8) I guess, I don't know exactly what the nock to nock is but its probably about 65", It pulls about 50#. I started with this roughed out piece of erc with a crack about 20" long from one side of the belly to the other. I copied the handle off another bow and it feels AMAZING in my hand. Also its got an arrow rest too as you can see. I made it by floor tillering one side, then I tried to copy the tiller as good as I could (I couldn't bend that limb at this point) I wrapped it with thread as you can see in the pictures and then I strung it. And the tiller was fantastic! I got very lucky on this bow  ;D The string is actually strands of that yellow rope stuff which works good for a bow string by the way! I will put stain and laquer on it and post more pics soon!  :D

It looks pretty good colt. A couple things though it erc not red cedar and round those corners on the limbs  :P. I am very suprised you were able to get a bow out of the piece it had a crack completely through one limb near the fade that was about 20 inches long and ran off the side! :o So good job I like your wrapping it looks cool. Your getting pretty good with those cracked limbs I would have just thrown that one in the fire.

Somehow the overlays ended up being more like recurves. Static? I guess cause they don't bend... But it works great!

If you don't like them you could still round them a little and make them smaller. Also you were probably trying to copy mine a little and I always taper the end of the limb almost to a point.

I would round the edges. Nice job as a selfbow. ERC is fun to work with. I built a rawhide backed ERC a few years ago, but it fretted and blew after several hundred shots. Have fun with it.

yeah I considered that. But since there is no bend in the handle, especially that part, I thought it would be alright. And so far it has been I've pulled it back about a hundred times shot it about thirty, Its holding up good. hopefully it doesn't Blow!!  :o Its my first self bow! Yeah I will round the edges I'm not finished just yet!!

You should round the corners as soon as you start tillering the reason for rounding them is more to keep splinters from pulling up on the edges then for looks.
