willow oak?

Have you used this for a bow wood before?  It has white sapwood and dark heartwood.  Opinions/suggestions........  The neighbor had a tree taken down yesterday and  I have a good bit of it.  I don't think there are any peices long enough for a stave but I could get some billets to splice together.

cut your staves long(72"), peel the bark off and seal the back and ends(carpenters glue or shellac).
 When you make the bow, make it 1 3/4" to 2" at the fades and out to mid limb. Then taper it to 1/2" tips(to be reduced later). When you are done with that, let us know how it worked out! ;D
  It should be similar to any of the other oaks.

Willow oak is one of the red oak group, and is sold as "red oak" in lumber form along with northern red oak, southern red oak, scarlet oak, black oak, and several others. So that red oak board you buy at Lowe's could possibly be willow oak. I'd do like Pat said.
