White Oak Hunting Bow

It's been a while since I posted a bow! I've had this one done for a while, but never managed getting some picutres taken of it. I'm still looking for a good background for pictures.

Anyway. It's a white oak semi-ELB. It's 70" long, 70# at 27". I started this bow last fall, but it was too wet to tiller. I finally got it done in the winter, but it wasn't until I put a Fast Flight string on it that it became a real shooter. It's fully broken in now, and I'm hoping to use it as a back up "go to" bow while I work on some other ones.

The handle is built up with leather, the wrap is masonry twine with walnut stain (something new I like). I slightly narrowed in the arrow pass to help with spine, and it did (this bow likes 70-75 arrows, a vast increase from my 75# that shot 60-65). The overlays are Osage. Despite this bow's very narrow tips, the slight whip tiller hasn't reduced handshock or boosted speed that much more than normal- thought it is a good shooter. It's taken about 1 5/8" set (and string follow) with a really heavily tempered belly. Still shoots well, and is my "new standard" of performance.

I like it as well.  My first bow is going to be white oak.  Just got it split today.  I'm really looking foward to getting it done. :)

Nice work, I love the stain you've got on it... gives it an almost rustic 'just found in a castle' feel :) Good tiller too

Good job keeping the set low, I've heard White Oak is prone to taking a lot of string follow.

Islandpiper, I'm currently shooting 675 gr practice arrows of birch. Even with tall featehrs it shoots them out to 50 or so yards without issue, and launches matched broadhead arrows even better. I had a freidn up a couple months ago and with similiar gpp arrows, it outshot his Bear Montanna. I was thrilled :).

Sean, thank you! White oak seems worse than hickory for losing moisture. I've two other white oak bows roughed out and drying, and both are being slugs about it. Luckily tempering the living sap out of the belly really helped.
