Can someone tell me if Jatoba will make a decent unbacked board bow in the 50-60# range?

Never used it unbacked, but it makes a great looking limb.  Ive put it under glass once and under  hickory on another.  Both looked great.    Id think the grain would keep it from being a good choice for an unbacked bow.

Burnie, the stuff I have is about as straight grained as any wood I've seen. Some was much like IPE that you couldn't really make out the grain in it.

i've made a few hickory backed ones.  justin at bowstick used to make selfbows with them though.  they really made pretty fast bows.  treat it kind of like ipe although not quite so narrow.  if it wasn't so expensive i would use it more often.  it is absolutely beautiful wood.

I've made two, both backed... one with hickory, one with maple. Both turned out OK.
