I use gravity and leverage quite often when making bows. Different tools but the same idea.

I think that is one of the most common bow building tools around.  ;) Mine is a pipe wrench like Steve's though.

Mine is self propelled, fueled with two bags of lead shot and as many large C clamps as I need in the bucket to make it work.

prop twist does not brother me either, but these bows I am doing have a 90degree twist, on both limbs and in different directions, that would be 180 out of line, now it is perfect, I hate to waste wood,I never get to use straight wood, >:(

Yep, every bowyer should have a tool just like that - unless you steam it and it dents the wood severly ::). That primitive pipe wrench appears to be just the ticket.

I use to do that a lot ,but now I just do it on the form with tappered shims,where I can pull in more to one side or the other. :) Take the twist and line up the tips and handle all at the same time.  :)

Been there, done that...but used leather between the jaw's. I like the "self-propelled" version... ;)
