snakey D's nuts "an osage D bow"
« on: March 18, 2009, 03:43:16 pm »
ok peeps,

this is an Osage bow that i made out of an osage limb i harvested a few months ago...

i didnt realize how snakey it was untill i split it and well i didnt really split it it split itself...  i debarked it and glued the ends and then while it was drie'n it craked all up and then i just split it where it was almost craked through...

i dint think i would be able to produce something out of it after all,  but i worked it here and there and finished it out to where it is shootable...  and i actually kind of like it...  its ugly as hell and you would think wow.. that is an ugly stick... but it shoots and it shoots fairly repeatable... "or fairly acuarate"  and i like it... it feels a little aquered in the hand but once you get used to it and accept the snakey twist it shoots ok...   i left it with a hemp handle i was going to put leather over the hemp wrap but decided to leave as is and i made a hemp string for it as well but i think i like the way it shoots with the paracord string a little better...

its 61" and some change tip to tip and about 59 1/2" nock to nock...  i dont know the draw wieght because i dont have a bow scale but i was able to get a full 28" draw from it...  need to pick up a scale i will post up weight at later time when i have a scale my guess would be around 38-45 # somewhere in that area... but who knows i'm far from being an expert hell im far from being a good beginer..lol...

i toasted the stick well done... ;)  just becuase it was fairly still green being i only harvested it a few months ago...  soo i hope it will help the bow cure a little bit...  i didnt put any laquire or poly on it becuase im hoping it might cure out a little more soo i just put a few coats of wesson vegatable oil on it for now as a light oil coat...

i'm thinking of naming it "Snakey D"  but that name made me think of an old inside joke we used to pull back in the days of high school and would walk up to some one and tell them that D was looking for them and when they would ask D ? D who?  we would reply D's Nuts...lol...
soo thats where i get the name "Snakey D's Nuts" sorry folks dont mean to be a clown but thats where the name comes from and thats what i named it...name just came to me out of the blue... :D :D :D ;D...

here is some pictures hope ya'll like the ugly thing...  it sure is ugly ;) ;D

That shows alot what the great osage is capable of. I still say that it's a great beginner wood in so many ways! I like it, it show and teaches charracter!

:o That is one of the ugliest bows Ive ever seen. It looks like it was in a bad accident where fire was involved. Well done :)
