Dumb question concerning boo backed-boo bellied bows

So if I am making a boo backed-boo bellied bow with a core wood such as maple, jatoba or ipe (as example)....IF during tillering how can you tell if the core has been compromised as in crushed or fretted?
OR will this even happen being sandwiched between two raw boo strips?

HAd to ask....I wanna make one soon.

It will break . I couldn't tell you from experience, but a while ago someon posted a BBB with a cherry core on another site. The core was really light and brash (haveing been overcooked or something?) and it just blew up while he was tillering.

Generally the core doesn't take much stress. The boo is strong in tension and the carbonized boo is strong in compression so the core is left without much of those stresses.

hope yo dont mind i jump in on this one...

   but i confused?    if you have a boo backed bow and then boo for a belly how would you tiller such a bow...   im assuming the boo in the belly would be round side out right???  sooo how do you tiller you wouldnt scrap or sand the boo like any other wood.. would you?

If core fails, it will simply hinge....
However, its quite unlikely to happen unless you thickness taper is not equal.

also, you can see from the side, Usually were it will fail if it does.


Shooter,
The core is pre-tapered so most of tiller is build into bow. If adjusts is needed you can shave the sides to correct.

Right on! Good floor tillering or "pre-tillering" the core would help alot in this respect I guess.
