That's a really good looking bow, very impressive...especially for your first.  :)

Did you ever mention the wood type? It looks like ash, but I'm not sure.

That is just a super bow for your first!! Very well done, sir. Split your own stave, self bow, short length, good weight, super tiller... you bit off a big chew for your first, and pulled it off well. I do believe you're hooked!

Thanks for all the compliments guys ! I am proud of it, but all of the credit goes to all the advice I got. Especially during tillering, everyone said SLOWLY, and that is what I did. I used Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane for the finish & I like how that stuff works.  My next bow is already roughed out from the same log, I did that Sunday. It has some deflex in handle area and reflexed limbs naturally so it will hopefully come out nice . It is a pyramid limb design about the same length, so we'll see what happens. Thanks,again, John
