I've got a great little bow on the go, 50" long and tillered to 25. I'm gonna do a rawhide backing and I have already got the strips cut out. I will be using hide glue.

Which side should go against the wood, hair or flesh. I was thinking hair as it is smoother and then sand down the flesh side,

what do you guys do?

I always put it down the way it came off the animal, flesh side down.

Flesh Side Down....if you want ....and I do.....sand it before you put it down to make sure that the part being glued is flat

Flesh side down because it tends to curl that way.

I have only rawhide backed one bow. I used Titebond 3 instead of hide glue the TB 3 is waterproof and did flesh side down.

I use TB3 also.Never done rawhide with hide glue.

I've used TB2 and hide glue for rawhide backings, and I've always put it flesh side down.
