I made these arrows for a trade with Minuteman(Chris). He wanted Plains style arrows so these are my version...not authentic but almost primitive.
The shafts are red osier(from Dana I believe) with self nocks(not bulbous pinch type that are typical). I mounted the turkey feathers with fletch tape to hold them down well but also wrapped them fore and aft with sinew. The points are hafted with pitch glue and sinew wrapped. I sealed all wraps and the shafts with pitch varnish. The cresting is earth pigments that was carried with Elmer's glue water. I guess I could have used glue water with hide glue but the Elmer's was convenient at the time. The decorative feathers on the fletching are Guinea feathers I bought from a fly tying shop and were used in some original Plains type arrows.
I only had 5 trade points(from 3Rivers) so I use an obsidian point that Justin had sent me on one arrow. The arrow with the stone point is almost ABO.
I used liquid hide glue to attach the feathers.
I posted these above but thought I'd post them for more folks to see.
