April 24,25 and 26 2009

If you are looking for a small afordable self bow shoot, this shoot may be for you. This will be the 6th year for the Spring Thaw Rendezvous. Most years we average between 50 and 60 Primitive Archers.
We set up 20 or so 3D targets along with a hand painted paper targets course, a bow making area. There is lots of room to camp, a Woodswalk Shoot and a Clout Shoot plus a Pot Luck Feast on Saturday. Historical Camps and Attire is welcomed but not required.
Hawkeye Bowmen is located at 13300 Clinton Street (Rte354) Marilla New York. Gate opens at 10am on Friday and the Shoot runs through Sunday at noon.

Ryan,

Thank you for the kind words. The reason the shoot is a good time is the folks like you and the rest of the PA boys who attend. It's turned  into a sort of Selfbow Family Reunion. Kind of a diverse group of folks ( Backwoodsmen, Hunters, Buckskinners, Vikings, English Longbowmen, Bow Makers, Flintnappers and such) with at least one thing in common, a interest in Primitive Archery!

Take care,
Brian

It looks like there should be some nice raffle prizes again this year. There may even be a bow or two given away.

Yes. This Hawkeye Shoot is a Selfbow only shoot. Hawkeye has other shoots throughout the year that include other equipment.

Hello everyone!
I am a new member here,
I just posted an introduction in the announcements section.
For anyone who was at last years "Spring Thaw V", I was the guy with the video camera.
We produced a 3 hour DVD of last years event and we plan on filming again this year.
I would like to encourage everyone who is thinking of attending, to do so,
Bring your best Historical attire and camp, if you have it,
if not come to the shoot anyway, I try to include everyone in the video..
Two Fletch,Iron Leg and Razz put on one heck of a shoot!!!
The fun is GUARANTEED!!!!

Ryano,
I have a standard policy that covers archers that miss the target,
I will delete any miss you want...
For a dollar. ::)

I'm still broke!
So you could'nt have missed many. ???

Don't worry about missing on camera this year,
I will cut and splice your shots with Chris's. ;)

I have been filming up at Hawkeye for three years now and last year was my first Primitive shoot,
I enjoyed myself immensely and was very impressed with all of the various characters at the shoot.
It is my favorite Hawkeye shoot.
I am looking forward to this years shoot, I plan on participating more, and filming more also.
Last years video turned out pretty good, but it was my first year at the shoot, and I did'nt know what to expect.
This year I am much better prepared.
I hope you'll be there and bring all of your primitive pals with you.

Just about 3 weeks till the Shoot. We are still working on details for the woodswalk ( may try something very different this year just to mix it up because you guys are getting pretty good ).
The prize table should be a good one again this year. Don't forget about the Campfire Cooking Contest on Friday (The Judges have got to eat you know). :)

Prize table should have two bows this year. Matt is donating a real nice hickory bow and Chuck is donating a equally nice osage bow. Kevin is donating one his calls. There should also be some arrows along with some other prizes. We have the courses laid out. This year there will be 2 courses with 10 3D targets on each course plus a interesting course of hand painted field course targets. Plans are for a bow making area under the Shelter by the Frontier Trash Camp. Hopefully Viking Carl will bring some of his flintnapping. Kevin is going to film some more this year. Saturdays Pot Luck Feast is worth attending alone.

Biran,
I have another addition for the prize table,
My pal Skip Perry has donated one of his fancy wingbone calls. :)
For those who do not know of Skip,
he is one of the most decorated wing Bone callmakers in the nation.
The NWTF holds the Grand National Callmaking Championship Contest in Feb. each year,
and Skip has a wall full of ribbons and awards.
If you make fancy wingbones, Skip is the guy to beat.

Ryano,

Same goes for the PA boys.

Kevin,

Thats great to hear that Skip Perry is donating one of his calls. I have seen his work at NWTF Fundraisers and You are correct in saying he is one of the finest callmakers in the United States.

Take care,
Brian
