New osage bow (not for BOM)
« on: January 12, 2009, 11:24:50 pm »
This is a little bow I started working on at Pappys back in November.  It's 60" ntn and about 1-3/8" wide. It has a couple thin courses of sinew on the back, covered with one timber rattler skin split down the middle. The overlays are deer horn and the handle wrap is hemp twine soaked in epoxy.
It draws 49 @27" and shoots good.
I had this thing tillered out to 53 @27", but noticed a few small chrysals on the top limb just above a knot. >:( So I re tillered it to bend a little more just above and below the chrysals.  They don't seem to be getting any worse, but they're there all the same.  Saw Filer

I think the wood may have been a bit green.  I cut it just 8 months before and it had not been in a hot box or anything.

Nice Shannon. I have an osage bow that was 2 months off the stump when I made it and it fretted just above the handle. I'll have to repair it as you did.    Pat

Nice Bow Shannon....Have you thought about wrapping the Frets with Sinew....or wouldn't this do any good?? Maybe it will be enough to just relieve them with the new Tiller??
