I read about a Mississippian-Caddo era long bow discovered in Spiro Mounds a while ago. The bow was reported to be osage, around 6’ long, round-ish in cross section and slightly reflexed. It was also reported to have a leather/buckskin handle wrap. I live in northeast Texas, in the heart of the territory and a short distance from where the bow was found. I recently completed a bow inspired by the one described above. It is made from locally harvested osage. It is 71.5” long, slightly reflexed, and is oval in cross section with very thin tips. I still need to wrap the handle, but I’m very happy with how the bow performs. It draws around 60# and is incredibly snappy. I’ll try to post pictures when I can figure out how to make them work.
