Tiller check
« on: February 24, 2021, 12:23:10 pm »
Hey all, trying to finish my first real bow here just looking for a little advice. Its a 52" sinew backed saskatoon (you guys might know it as serviceberry), its bending 25". I think i need to shave down the right side maybe 3/3rds of the way out to get them to match up, then work down the handle area to get that bending right at the end of draw. Hoping to get 2 more inches out of it. What you guys say?
Thanks in advance

What is the front view profile? What weight do you want?

Everything outside of the fades(they bend almost too much) needs to bend more. The handle is OK but the outer 2/3 of the limbs need to bend.

Definitely outer limbs need to bend more..... but unbraced profile is needed
Why must we make simple things so complicated?

Ok, shaved down outers a bit, have a little more to do i think.  Had been hoping for 50 lbs, but its pulling 46 at 26 now so 50 might be out of reach. Seems like if I get the ends moving a bit more then get the handle flexing a bit and I could get 27, 27.5 maybe. Attached more pics, thanks guys.

Impressive amount of reflex given the shape of the bend. Sinew is magic. I don't notice a drastic change between the first and subsequent photos. Simk has given good advice.
