Yes is great wood.
Don't worry about 'designs' too much. The only thing to worry about along those lines when starting out is flat belly versus crowned (elb).
The wood doesn't know what design it is in it simply feels the strain you put it under. If that strain is within the woods capabilities you are good
Watch for set showing up too early to let you know if you are asking appropriate questions of the wood.
Any set before 18 - 20" indicates something ain't right
Too little working limb, too narrow,too short etc.....once you see set showing up use it as your infallible guide.
