Working with shoot shafts???
« on: October 15, 2020, 06:14:00 pm »
When working with shoot shafts that had little branches/twigs coming off the side that area is usually a little stiffer than in between them so when flexing the shaft it doesn't bend evenly. My question is does that affect the paradox and spine when shooting it or is it not that big of deal?

When I'm making shoot shaft arrows I only check spine to find the stiff side, the side that goes against the bow. I then cut the nock accordingly. The natural taper of a shoot shaft allows it so shoot about a 10# range of draw weights. I have also found that shoots of similar material and size shoot similarly.
Shoot shafts have a pretty irregular surface with ups and down, small knots and wiggles. Even with all these irregularities they can be made to shoot well. If they are a little stiff you can sand the mid section to weaken the spine or you can add heavier tip weight and/or leave them longer.

I'm not an expert with shoot shafts, but something I've noticed is that just like people, there's always one or two buttheads in every group that no matter what you do they won't group nicely with the others.
