Given equal/proper prep on the surfaces will wood glue give a better glue line than epoxy?

Good question.  Logically based on the components in each the wood glue should give a more invisible line but that would  likely to be at a degree not visible to the naked eye..

No. Both can be made invisible to the naked eye.

I was gluing a cap over the bottom of the riser. It was a non stressed position so i thought I would used my wood glue "LePages Pro Carpenter". It's faster than epoxy. I used the same care I would use for epoxy in the joinery and the joint turned out really nice. I have gotten joints that nice with epoxy but it just got me to wondering if wood glue usually made a better line. I was thinking of trying it where I patched the chrysal but I chickened out and used epoxy.

Epoxy is 100% solids while Carpenters glue is rarely  half that.
