Reflexing after or before tillering
« on: June 09, 2019, 05:45:53 pm »
Generally speaking most reflexing is done before the tillering stage.  If a bow is almost finished in the tillering stage could you still do some minor steam or heat bending,    I'm talking maybe a bow taking no set or very little like 3/8".   THe wood fibres would not be overly stretched in the sense.

Many people heat treat before,  during and after tillering.

I’ll reheat as many times as needed. Before, during and after as Pat said.

Wasn't really referring to heat treating so much as asking bout adding reflex to a bows tips etc.

I am usually well into the tillering stage before I heat treat or reflex.

I should have been more clear...I will add reflex by heating the bow through out the build, until it’s like I want it. I heated the sinew backed bow today to tweak the alignment and reflex. I didn’t carry the sinew onto the curves. I wrapped the sinew in foil and heated. That bow is an illustration of my point.
