A Soapstone Prayer
« on: August 11, 2017, 09:21:23 am »
I was trying for JFK, some said it looks like Elvis.
That's OK I like em both.

Looks like JFK to me Zuma. I like em both to. My friends had a party last weekend and had a Elvis impersonator there. He was pretty good, did Johnny Cash to

Looks like JFK to me.  Good work, soapstone is a good carving medium.

Thanks gentlemen, You are kind.
One of the tough aspects of this soapstone is that there are harder and softer areas. It makes the tools skip or bite to much some times. Plus it makes the light refract differently. I could oil him and go for the darker look.
I just got a cool pic of Elvis. I may just give him a try.

Did a pipe out of soapstone for the learning before I tried one out of pipestone, got the pipestone waiting for the " round tuit".  Haven't done any relief carving lately.  I do remember the soapstone was tougher to shape in places.  Good work
